1. Where can I donate handmade items?
Check the list to see if there's already an Evan's Box near you! If there is not, start your own Evan's Box and reach out to your local hospital.
2. How do I coordinate with the hospital?
Get in touch with the grief/bereavement counselor in the labor and delivery department. This person deals directly with the families that lose a child, so they are a great person to start with. If anything they can point you in the right direction. Another idea is the Child Life Coordinator. Your contact does not have to have a specific title or job description; it just needs to be someone who is able and willing to be responsible for the box. Make sure you emphasize that you have micro items in your box for babies born between 12 and 22 weeks. When you take your box, please make sure it has the Evan’s Box decal on it so when you (or others) donate you can say, "This goes in Evan’s Box," and they will know where to put it. (Also good so the box doesn’t get shoved in a corner.)
3. What kind of yarn should I use?
Yarn that is labeled for babies is the safest choice. Lion Brand Baby Soft and Yarn Bee are good. Just make sure whatever kind you choose is extremely soft because the babies' skin is extremely delicate. Yarn can be purchased at places like Hobby Lobby, JoAnn's, or Michael's.
4. What supplies do I need to start making things?
You will need baby yarn (see FAQ 3), yarn hooks (size 3.5, 4.0, or 4.5), a yarn needle, and crochet patterns.
5. I don't crochet, knit, or sew. How else can I help?
Monetary donations are always accepted and appreciated! Additionally, you can send something from our Amazon Wish List. Finally, you can spread the word to help raise awareness of the importance of this.
6. I love to crochet, knit, or sew, but I am not ready or able to commit to starting my own Evan's Box, and there's not one near me. Can I still help?
We have a solution for that! You can follow our patterns to make micro baby items, and then mail them to us at Evan's Box headquarters. We have local boxes that we keep filled that could use donations! Our mailing address is 7380 Spout Springs Road #210, Box 120, Flowery Branch, GA 30542
7. I'd be willing to co-start an Evan's Box near me, but I don't have anyone to work with. (Or I know how to sew but don't have anyone to crochet or knit the hats necessary to fill the box.) What do I do?
